Wei: small details can cause big problems
2010-07-15

OCA Life Vice President Wei Jizhong stressed the importance of team work at the Chefs de Mission Seminar for the 2nd Asian Beach Games Muscat 2010 at the Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa on Wednesday (July 14) morning. In his opening address, the veteran Chinese sports leader and International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) President said the seminar was very important for the Olympic Council of Asia, organising committee MABGOC and for the 45 National Olympic Committees.

"In November we have the Asian Games in Guangzhou, in December we have the Asian Beach Games in Muscat and in January 2011 we have the Asian Winter Games in Kazakhstan, so all the NOCs will be very busy," said Mr Wei.

"Now we need to work together to make these three Games successful."

Mr Wei, a former Chairman of the OCA's influential Sports Committee, encouraged NOCs to provide negative feedback and ask tough questions to the organisers ahead of the December 8-16 beach festival.

"Only negative feedback can help us solve the problems," he said. "Positive feedback is necessary but can sometimes lead to mistakes.

"Planning is one thing, implementation is another, so all the small details can create a big problem."

During the meeting, Mr Wei urged organisers to set up the competition areas as soon as possible, as sand will be brought from outside for some of the venues.

"I recommend you bring it as early as possible and ask the athletes to test it to avoid problems near the start of competition."
