April 20, 2009 11:00 a.m. (Beijing) – The Road of Asia Malaysia representative group visited the influential Kuala Lumpur Kwang Tung Association (KLKTA). The Road of Asia group gave a presentation on the preparatory work for the Guangzhou Asian Games to local Chinese dignitaries. KLKTA First Deputy Director Pan Xin stated that the 16th Asian Games in Guangzhou will be the pride of Chinese people from around the world. The Chinese of Malaysia have pledged to give their full support to Guangzhou and the country of their ancestral land.

With a history of over 70 years, KLKTA boasts over 10,000 members and enjoys a high level of prestige. Deputy Director Pan hopes to leverage KLKTA’s influence against mobilizing the Chinese in Malaysia to support the Guangzhou Asian Games.

Conversations revealed that KLKTA has already begun to recruit volunteers for the Guangzhou Asian Games. KLKTA Youth Section Director Su Yongxiong explained that his team will rely on KLKTA’s resources and network of overseas Chinese to rally the Chinese in Malaysia, especially those from younger generations, to contribute to the Guangzhou Asian Games.

Road of Asia is a large-scale promotional event jointly organized by the Olympic Council of Asia and the Guangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee. The event will retrace the Silk Road to carry out a wide range of promotional activities on land, at sea, and in air.
